Zap/Popcorn Reading: Split the class into two teams. One student begins reading as little or as much as they want. When they are done reading, they stop, and say “Zap! Joe (and call on someone else from the opposing team to pick up reading where they left off) This works really well if the student stops in mid sentence and calls on someone who they don't think is paying attention. If the student is slow to respond then the opposing team gains a point.
