Games Played Individually

Draw A...: Put a piece of blank paper on on one end of the classroom and the students on the other end. Teacher tells students what to draw.. 'Draw 2 blue fish.' To encourage them to draw fast, you could give points to the first 3 students who race back to their seat and sit down first.

Paper Shower: The teacher prepares a lot of copies of the vocabulary. For example: Days of the week- write the days of the week on multiple slips of papers. Crumble them up and throw them so they land all over the classroom. Have students chant the question related to the unit. “What day is today?” Teacher responds with, “It's Monday.” Students race to find the word Monday and when they find it have them hold up the paper and shout, “It's Monday!”

Picture Fun: Have the students cut out a picture of a person in a magazine. Students should describe the person, how old they are, what their job is, what their hobbies are, etc. and then present that person to the class. This is good for practicing adjectives.

Crossword Toss: Make a crossword puzzle with all of the vocabulary words from the unit. Give each student a crossword and tell them to write their name at the top. Make sure you remove the list of words from the puzzle. Only you will have a copy of these words. Put all the crosswords in a circle in the middle of the classroom. Call one student up at a time to make a sentence with the target word without actually saying the word. (replacing the target word with *beep*) For example if the word is teacher, the student might say “My English (beeeeeeep) is the best!” The student to guess the word first wins a point. The students then race to find their crossword and circle the word 'teacher'. The student to circle the word last has to make a sentence with the next word.
